3 things I'm grateful for
As cheesy as it sounds, I often like to take some time, sit down and just reflect on the time past, what I'm grateful, what mistakes I have made and how I can learn from the mistakes. I find that when I know what I am grateful for it gives me something to hold on to and to push me to keep going when I just want to stop. Obviously there are the main things like supportive family and friends, a roof over my head, education etc. But often the little things are overlooked and pushed aside.
Good health - It is so easy to complain about the slightest bit of discomfort, the littlest feeling of pain, but until we or someone else we know gets sick, we often don't realise the blessing of being healthy and having a fully functional body. I've definitely been at fault with being lazy and complaining at the slightest bit of physical labour. Until recently, I never even thought about the fact that I should be grateful that I am able to complete these tasks which some people can't do. I have seen first - hand the impact that sickness has on not only the individual but their family and the strain that they experience. This makes me forever thankful for my healthy body and makes me strive harder to maintain my health.
Friends who stand up for me - Conflict with others is the true test of a friendship. Being involved in conflict myself just recently, it makes you realise who are your true friends. During the conflict I watched amazingly as friend after friend proceeded to rise to stand up for me which makes my heart swell. I am forever grateful for those who remain supportive of me even when they could just walk away. Instead they are always there for me, patiently providing generously, being by my side for moral support and helping me to explain my side of the story when I can't find the words to explain it. As cliché as it sounds, without these supportive friends life would be a lot more challenging.
Food - Food is my comfort, my time filler, my entertainment and my pleasure. I always forget what a privilege it is to be able to afford food, to have food readily available and for it to be so easily accessible. I am so grateful of such a simple but big part of my life which is so often overlooked and I think it opens makes me realise how many other things I am overlooking.
Gratitude is such an important part of life and wellbeing. With our rushed lives we often stop to reflect and neglect simple things. I hope that reading the post has given you just a few ideas of how to be grateful and maybe open your eyes to many other little things in your life that are a blessing to you.
I would love to know what you're grateful for so please comment the things you are currently grateful for!
